Registration Now Open for the Nogizaka School Course

We are pleased to announce a six-part public lecture series titled “Rethinking Processed Foods: The Debate over Ultra-Processed Foods (UPF),” beginning on Wednesday, October 7.

Processed foods play an important role in supporting our daily diets thanks to their shelf life and convenience. At the same time, ultra-processed foods (UPF), which are industrially manufactured and contain ingredients not used in home cooking, such as flavorings and emulsifiers, have been linked to obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, and discussions on regulation and policy intervention are underway around the world.
Over the six sessions, this course offers a multifaceted look at the basic concept of UPF, international trends, the current evidence on health effects, safety assessment of chemicals in food, and risk communication. The final session will feature a panel discussion on the place of UPF in “food, nutrition, and health” and the challenges ahead.
The course is recommended for those working in food, nutrition, and health in academia, industry, government agencies, NGOs, and other settings.

Sessions are held on Wednesdays from 18:00 to 19:30 (JST), starting October 7. You can attend in whatever way suits you best: in person, via live streaming, or on demand.
